Vol. 248 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mentally Retarded Children.

9.

asked the Minister for Health if he has considered the extension of hospitalisation for mentally retarded children at Sligo as the facilities there are not adequate to deal with the demand.

It is expected that work will commence in the near future on a scheme to provide an additional 60 places at Cregg House, Sligo, for severely mentally handicapped boys and girls.

I have also approved of a further extension at this centre to provide accommodation for 100 adult mentally handicapped females and preliminary planning work has commenced in consultation with the Order.
