Vol. 249 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Airport Extension.

45.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if it is proposed to acquire additional land in the vicinity of Dublin Airport for extension of runways or any other purpose; and, if so, what stage negotiations have now reached and from whom it is intended to make such acquisition.

It is intended to acquire about 900 acres of land for the extension of Dublin Airport.

The statutory procedure for the making by me of an order under section 41 of the Air Navigation and Transport Act, 1936, for the compulsory acquisition of about 237 acres on the east side of the airport was initiated on 1st September, 1970. All persons likely to be affected have been notified. The names of the owners or reputed owners of these lands were set out in a book of reference which was deposited and kept open for inspection at the Garda station at Swords and at my Department's Offices.

Officers of the Valuation Office, who are acting on my behalf, are now engaged in the completion of the work in connection with the other lands to be acquired. This work includes negotiations with owners with a view to the acquisition of the lands by agreement if possible. The compilation of full information on the ownership of these lands has not yet been completed.
