Vol. 249 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Gratuities.

84.

asked the Minister for Defence when the necessary amending legislation will be introduced to enable the payment of gratuities to retiring NCOs in the Army.

I hope to be in a position during the present session to move the motions for confirmation by resolution of each House of the Oireachtas of an Amending Defence Forces (Pensions) Scheme which will provide for the payment of gratuities to married long service non-commissioned officers and privates.

Can the Minister say whether, on account of the long delay in producing this legislation, the payments will be retrospective and will interest be paid in retrospect?

The amending scheme will require confirmation and it will be effective from the 1st June, 1969.
