Vol. 249 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - FCA Training.

87.

asked the Minister for Defence the number of men given FCA training at Fort Dunree during 1967-70; and the total number of men who signed on from each county in the Republic and Northern Ireland.

The answer to the first part of the question is 114. I assume that the information sought in the second part relates to the personnel referred to in the first part. On this assumption the breakdown is as follows:

County Donegal

73

County Offaly

22

County Roscommon

9

County Derry

10

The ten men from County Derry were enlisted under an arrangement approved by my predecessor. Their addresses are shown in Army records as being in County Donegal.

While thanking the Minister for not being as evasive as his predecessor in this matter, may I ask him why last May when this information was specifically sought by a Member of this House it was not then given by his predecessor?

I cannot answer for my predecessor.

That would be a separate question.

It requires a separate Government. It also puts another nail in the coffin of Deputy Gibbons.

It does not. It puts another nail in your coffin.
