Vol. 249 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Readmission to Defence Forces.

97.

asked the Minister for Defence whether it is open to a former member of the Defence Forces (name supplied) to apply for readmission to the Army; whether he has applied for readmission, and, if so, whether he will be readmitted.

Section 41 of the Defence Act, 1954, provides as follows:—

"Each of the following persons shall be eligible to be appointed to be an officer of the Permanent Defence Force or the Reserve Defence Force that is to say:—

(a) Irish citizens;

(b) any other persons specially approved by the Minister."

The person referred to in the Deputy's question has not applied for readmission to the Permanent Defence Force.

The question I asked was if the man applied would the Minister readmit him?

That is another matter.

That is the question I want answered.

It will be considered.
