Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Inshore Survey Work.

110.

asked the Minister for Defence if any survey team from the British Royal Navy has been engaged on inshore survey work on the approaches to some harbours and fishing ports in this country.

As indicated in reply to previous questions on the 2nd May, 1967 and 25th April, 1968, the British Hydrographic Department have, since 1963, been engaged in carrying out a hydrographic survey of an extensive area of the North Atlantic to the west and north-west of Ireland. In connection with this work an offer by the British authorities to carry out surveys of certain Irish harbours and coastal waters along the north-west and west coasts was accepted.

To date surveying has been carried out in the following inshore waters and harbours:—

Lough Swilly, Sligo Harbour, Killybegs Harbour, Burtonport Harbour, Killala Bay, Broadhaven Bay, Blacksod Bay, Baltimore Harbour.
