Vol. 249 No. 6

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Estate.

28.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the Martin Baggott estate, Cloonreligh, Ballinlough, County Galway, which was offered for sale by private treaty recently, has been sold; and if he will now consider acquiring this estate and dividing it between the deserving applicants in that area.

I am informed that this 33-acre holding was sold in two lots of 25 acres and eight acres respectively to two adjoining smallholders. An application for the consent of the Land Commission to the subdivision of the holding was granted recently, thereby validating the sale referred to. The effect of the transaction was to enlarge the uneconomic holdings of two adjoining farmers and the question of instituting proceedings for the acquisition of the property involved does not arise.

One of those gentlemen had the distinguished name of Martin Flanagan.
