Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Offaly Housing.

53.

andMr. Cowen asked the Minister for Local Government if he will sanction the tender for the 17 prefabricated dwellings submitted by Offaly County Council.

54.

asked the Minister for Local Government (a) when he received tenders for sanction from Offaly County Council for the erection of 17 prefabricated dwellinghouses and (b) when he proposes sanctioning such tenders.

I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 53 and 54 together.

Proposals for the acceptance of a tender for these dwellings were received in my Department on the 5th ultimo and were approved by me on 21st ultimo.

55.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has received proposals and tenders from Offaly County Council for the erection of 22 houses at Kilcormac; and, if so, when he anticipates that he will be in a position to sanction such tenders.

Proposals for the acceptance of a tender for this scheme, which were received in my Department on the 12th ultimo were approved by me on 22nd ultimo.

Can the Minister tell us why this remarkable activity on the part of Laois/Offaly Deputies has occurred just now?

It is merely a true picture of the type of activity which the Department involve themselves in.

You are the boss?

It is an indication of the efficiency of the Department, we deal with most of these applications in a very short time. This has been truly reflected in the answers to many Parliamentary questions.

The Minister's Department is not the only Department which was in issue today. We had a great deal about land division today.

Last week they thought they were going.
