Vol. 249 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Registration Cards.

45.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will consider advising all local authorities to issue, as is the common practice among many housing authorities in these islands, a housing registration card to each approved housing applicant showing the total number of points allocated to each applicant as of a given date.

The adoption and administration of schemes of letting priorities are matters entirely for the local housing authorities, who may, if they see fit, adopt the practice suggested by the Deputy. I do not propose to advise them generally to do so, as only a limited number of authorities have adopted a points system and, in any event, any advantage which the practice might offer to applicants would be outweighed by the temporary nature of the points information and the cost to the authority of administering it.
