46.

andMr. Cowen asked the Minister for Local Government if he will sanction the extension of Portarlington water scheme to Ballymorris, County Laois, submitted to his Department by Laois County Council in June last.

47.

andMr. Cowen asked the Minister for Local Government if he will sanction the sewerage extension in Portlaoise for Stradbally Road, submitted by Laois County Council last June.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 46 and 47 together. A decision on these proposals will issue very shortly.

48.

andMr. Cowen asked the Minister for Local Government if he will sanction the Banagher water extension, County Offaly.

The preliminary report for the Banagher water supply improvement scheme, which included these extensions, was approved in May last and I have recently sanctioned the plant specification for the scheme.

49.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the present position regarding contract 11 (a) of the North Dublin regional water supply scheme; when he received the preliminary report; and what has happened since.

Preliminary proposals for this contract were received in my Department on the 27th October, 1969. These have been under consideration in the light of progress on earlier sections of the North Dublin scheme which must be completed to provide a source of supply for the section comprised in contract 11 (a). I expect to convey a decision on the proposals shortly.

50.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he expects to sanction the laying of the Swords-Malahide water main, County Dublin.

I hope to be in a position to convey a decision on this scheme shortly.

51.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will investigate the urgent necessity for a water supply for the residents of Clonad, Clonbullogue, County Offaly in view of the great urgency associated with this matter, as local residents have no supply available.

There are no proposals before my Department for a water supply for this area.

52.

asked the Minister for Local Government what the present position is regarding the installing of a water supply for the village of Borris-in-Ossory, County Laois, and for the surrounding area; and if he will make a full statement regarding same.

I approved of the Laois County Council's preliminary proposals for this scheme which will serve the town of Borris-in-Ossory and an adjoining area on 18th June last, subject to the submission of details of the proposed filter plant. I understand that these details are now being submitted.

53.

asked the Minister for Local Government what the present position is regarding the group water scheme at Termon, Letterkenny, County Donegal.

The design of this scheme has been approved subject to some technical modifications. My Department's inspector will call on the group shortly to finalise the financial arrangements.

54.

asked the Minister for Local Government the up-to-date position regarding the Kiltrogue, Claregalway, County Galway, group water scheme.

Two sources for the Cahernashelleeny group water supply scheme have been examined and have been found unsatisfactory. My Department has now sought the agreement of Galway County Council to the use of a council borehole to serve the group.

55.

asked the Minister for Local Government the position regarding the Grange group water scheme, Claregalway, County Galway.

My Department is in communication with Galway County Council regarding the use of a council borehole to serve this group. As soon as the question of an acceptable source is cleared, the group will be informed of the next steps to be taken.

56.

asked the Minister for Local Government the up-to-date position of the Aghamore and Tooreen group water scheme, County Mayo.

The source of supply for this scheme has been approved. The original design for the scheme submitted by the group to my Department required modification. A revised design received from the group has presented some technical problems. These are under examination and it is hoped to resolve them shortly.

57.

asked the Minister for Local Government the position regarding the Barnaderg group water schemes, County Galway.

The engineer engaged by the group is preparing a design for this scheme.

58.

asked the Minister for Local Government the position regarding the Brierfield group water scheme, County Galway.

A design for a 40 house scheme for this area was approved in March last. Subsequently the group submitted new survey sheets to the Department showing only 26 names. The cost per house for the smaller number seems to be beyond the resources of the group. The possibility of reducing costs is currently under examination.

59.

asked the Minister for Local Government the position regarding the Kiltevna-Woodfield group water scheme, County Galway.

A design for this scheme is now being prepared by the Electricity Supply Board.

60.

asked the Minister for Local Government the position regarding the Curry-Corafin group water scheme, County Galway.

The design for this scheme was approved by Galway County Council last month and the group have sought quotations for the necessary materials, excavating, pipe-laying, etc.

61.

asked the Minister for Local Government the position regarding the Anbally-Carbally group water scheme, County Galway.

The design for this scheme has been approved. Approval to the State grants will be issued by my Department shortly.

62.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the urgent need for the extension of the water supply scheme to Rathreedaune, Bonniconlon, Ballina, County Mayo; and what steps he proposes to take to have this provided.

No proposals have been submitted to my Department for such a scheme. I understand however, that the local authority are extending the water supply to the Rathreedaune, Bonniconlon, area.

63.

asked the Minister for Local Government if his Department received a tender from Kerry County Council for the implementation of the Ardfert piped water scheme; if so, if it has been considered; and when he will be in a position to sanction such tender.

A decision will issue very shortly on the proposal by Kerry County Council to accept a tender for the Ardfert water supply scheme.

64.

asked the Minister for Local Government how long it will be before all the houses on Cobh Island, which are receiving water from the Tibbotstown scheme, will have a 24 hour water supply.

The Cobh water supply augmentation scheme at present in progress will when completed provide an adequate water supply for the houses referred to. I understand that the local authority hope to have this scheme completed by next autumn.

65.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the serious hardship suffered by the residents of the Ballintubber area in County Roscommon due to the lack of a water supply in the area and of the necessity to provide quickly a proper supply; the date the application for a regional scheme for Castlerea and Ballintubber was submitted to the Department by Roscommon County Council; what progress has been made to date; and if he will take immediate steps to grant the necessary sanction.

Ballintubber is one of the areas proposed to be served as part of the Castlerea regional water supply scheme, preliminary proposals for which were first submitted to my Department on the 13th May, 1965. Since then the local authority has been investigating potential sources of supply and considering the desirability of undertaking the scheme by stages with a view to enabling Ballintubber village to be supplied in advance of the main scheme. On the latest information available to me this regional scheme is not regarded by the local authority as having a high priority on their water and sewerage programme.

den Aire Rialtais Áitiúil an iarrfaidh sé go ndéanfar athrú ar an scéim atá beartaithe le méadú ar shaoráidí uisce ar feadh bhóthar an chósta in aice an Spidéil, Co. na Gaillimhe, ionas go bhféadfaidh na daoine a chónaíonn i mBaile Liam leas a bhaint as an scéim.

Is ceist í seo le reiteach ag an gcomhairle chontae i dtús baire.

Tuigim go bhfuil an t-údarás áitiúil tar éis tuarascáil an chomhairleóra a fháil agus go bhfuil sí faoi scrúdú acu.

67.

asked the Minister for Local Government (a) when he received the final contract documents from Offaly County Council for Kinnitty sewerage and (b) when he proposes to approve such documents.
