Vol. 249 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork TV Reception.

125.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will take steps to allow the introduction of piped television in Cork city.

126.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will consider the provision of another channel for TV in Cork.

With your permission, a Leas-Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 125 and 126 together.

Subject to certain conditions and restrictions, piped television or communal aerial systems are permitted for the distribution by wire or cable to subscribers' premises of programmes which can be received directly off the air in the area in question.

If the Deputy has in mind that special arrangements be made or authorised to bring to Cork by microwave or otherwise television programmes which cannot be received in the area by outdoor aerial, the answer to his question in this regard is "no".

There are no plans at present for the provision of a second television service.
