Vol. 249 No. 11

Ceisteanna — Questions Oral Answers. - County Roscommon Firefighting Service.

72.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that equipment being used by Castlerea fire brigade is in obsolete condition; and if he will take steps to have it replaced immediately.

73.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is satisfied that the fire fighting services in County Roscommon are adequate to deal with any fire that may occur.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 72 and 73 together.

Under the Fire Brigades Act, 1940, it is the responsibility of the sanitary authority to make reasonable provision for the prompt and efficient extinguishing of fires in their district.

I understand that the position in relation to the fire service generally in County Roscommon, including Castlerea, is under review by the sanitary authority and I have asked them for a report on the matter with particular reference to the serviceability of equipment.
