Vol. 249 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Coast Erosion.

19.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that coast erosion is very severe at the North Strand, Skerries and at the Burrow, Portrane, County Dublin; and, if so, if he will have a survey carried out in the near future.

A proposal under the Coast Protection Act, 1963, for a scheme at North Strand, Skerries, County Dublin, was submitted by Dublin County Council but, having regard to other commitments, I cannot say at present when it will be reached. The county council have carried out some works to remove the immediate danger.

No proposal under the Act has been received in respect of the Burrow, Portrane.

Is the Minister aware that part of my territory is being washed away?

Any votes in it?

I should like to inform the Deputy that I am aware of the problem and the county council are to be congratulated on the work they have done on the North Strand in Skerries. In relation to Portrane, the next step lies with the county council.
