Vol. 249 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bord Fáilte Grant for Salthill, Galway.

8.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether the proposed grant from Bord Fáilte has been made available to the company responsible for the building of the proposed complex in Salthill, County Galway, and, if so, what the amount is.

The Galway-Salthill Centre is being assisted by Bord Fáilte under the Major Resort Development Scheme. I am informed by the board that, although expenditure by them in Galway-Salthill on the whole resort development scheme amounted to £260,034 by 31st March, 1970, grants in respect of the centre are not payable until the bodies concerned have accepted tenders in relation to the building of the centre and the works to which the grants relate have been completed and are certified.

Nevertheless, in order to advance the project, the board have made a sum of £76,140 available to Galway-Salthill Fáilte Ltd., the company established to carry out the development of the centre and its administration, for property acquisition and to meet consultants' fees and expenses relating to the design of the centre. Of this amount, £45,701 was paid up to the end of March last and £30,439 in the current year.
