Vol. 250 No. 4

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Electricity Generation.

27.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if any plans have been prepared by the ESB to generate electricity by means other than the traditional ones.

I understand that the ESB pumped storage hydro project, which is under construction at Turlough Hill, County Wicklow, is expected to be completed in 1973-74. While this is not a source of energy it enables power generated by traditional means to be stored for use at times of peak demands. The board also have tentative plans for the commissioning of a nuclear station in the late 1970s.
