Vol. 250 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Official Christmas Cards.

46.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the cost of officially provided Christmas cards and greetings sent by him in 1969; if the postage was provided free by his Department; if so, the cost in each case; if he will give an estimate of the cost of cards on order for this year; and if the cards will be sent free.

The cost of cards purchased in 1969 was £81 10s. No cards are being ordered this year. Officially-provided cards are issued in the Department's ordinary mail.

Would the Minister not agree that this is a very good example for the other members of the Government?

That all depends.

The Minister is not talking about himself, of course.

I accept that. Can the Deputy not wait for the question which relates to my Department?

The Minister for Lands is showing a very good example to the rest of them in view of the fact——

I will convey the Deputy's view to the Minister. I am sure he will appreciate it.

In view of the fact that according to the Minister's colleague, the Minister for Finance, current expenditure will be £491 million, the saving of a couple of hundred pounds on Christmas cards by each Minister would be no great harm.

(Interruptions.)

I did not. We are coming to that.
