Vol. 250 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Schools.

53.

asked the Minister for Education what is the present position regarding the building of a comprehensive school at Walkinstown. County Dublin.

It is assumed that the Deputy is referring to the post-primary school which is being provided in Walkinstown by the County Dublin Vocational Education Committee.

Work has commenced on the building of this school. It is hoped that the junior section will be ready for occupation by first and second year boys in September, 1971.

54.

asked the Minister for Education what plans the Department have for the erection of primary, secondary and vocational schools in the Tallaght area, County Dublin.

The schedule of accommodation and other arrangements connected with the proposed new post-primary school complex in Tallaght has been the subject of discussions with the County Dublin Vocational Education Committee and the religious orders concerned. These discussions have not yet been completed.

In relation to primary school facilities in the Tallaght area, I would refer the Deputy to the reply which I gave to a previous question on 28th October, 1970, in regard to this matter.

Will the Minister ensure that clearance is given as soon as possible to school development in the Tallaght area?

I shall convey Deputy Dowling's comment to the Minister for Education.

It will not be like the swimming pool in Ballyfermot.

A good, able man has been appointed for the area.
