Vol. 250 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authority Purchase Houses.

29.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state his views on the caretaker's agreements into which many prospective purchasers of local authority built houses are expected to enter; if he has any complaints about such agreements; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The management and allocation of purchase houses are matters for the local authorities concerned. I understand that Dublin and Dún Laoghaire Corporations have allowed purchasers who so wish to occupy some such houses under caretakers' agreements, pending the finalisation of the sale of the houses, in return for payment of amounts necessary to cover loan and other charges which have to be met by the local authorities in respect of the houses. The arrangement is one between the local authorities and the purchasers and I have no function in the matter. I have had no complaints about the agreements.
