Vol. 250 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Agricultural Exports.

132.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will state those agricultural commodities in which there has been a decline in exports in volume terms over the past five years; and the measures, if any, the Government propose to take to arrest this decline.

The only decline has been in the case of sheep, wool, and mushrooms. Measures of improved production incentives have already been taken in these cases.

Has the Minister any evidence to support the view he expressed earlier to the effect that the downturn in sheep numbers has stopped? The Minister mentioned this in the introduction to his Estimate.

I have evidence from the officials of my Department, who have these matters under observation and who are in a position to know.

What sort of evidence is it?

I have not got it with me.
