Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - State Bodies.

7.

asked the Taoiseach if he is now in a position to announce the Government's proposals to set up a Dáil Committee to review on a regular basis the work of State and semi-State bodies.

The question of establishing a Dáil Committee to review the work of State-sponsored bodies is related to the recommendations in regard to the restructuring of the public service in the report of the Public Services Organisation Review Group. These recommendations are still under consideration and, until such time as decisions are taken in relation to them, it is not envisaged that any conclusions will be reached in regard to the subject of parliamentary review of State-sponsored bodies.

Could the Taoiseach indicate when the review will be completed?

The Government have taken one decision, that is in relation to the setting up of the Public Services Department, which we believe is crucial to the implementation of the rest of the Devlin Report. Legislation is now being prepared for that purpose and it is expected to be enacted by the Easter recess.
