Vol. 251 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Free Electricity.

22.

andMr. Bruton asked the Minister for Social Welfare if old age pensioners in receipt of free electricity pay turnover tax on electricity used; and, if so, if he will arrange that this practice will cease.

Arrangements have recently been made whereby my Department will meet the cost of turnover tax on that part of the bills of qualified pensioners which refers to the fixed charge and to the first hundred units of electricity consumed. This arrangement will come into effect in respect of accounts for the period February/March, 1971, and thereafter.
