Vol. 251 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Commission Schemes.

18.

andMrs. Burke asked the Minister for Lands what the normal time lag is between the submission of Land Commission schemes to the Land Commission headquarters by local inspectors and the final approval of the schemes by the Commissioners.

Is the Minister not aware that some of the files are in the Land Commission office for at least 12 months and that there are long delays before the land is allocated?

Yes, I am aware of this. The situation is that in many instances the Land Commission can act very promptly in relation to the division of land but in other cases where there are considerable problems in relation to title and so on, there are long delays. This is not the fault of the Land Commission. In my experience it is very often the fault of the people who own the land in not sending in the information requested by the Land Commission.

How does the Minister square that with his original reply to the effect that there was no delay?

I would imagine that the problem here related to the definition of a normal time lag.

What is the average? Some of them are three or four years.

The average is quite a different matter. Perhaps that is what the Deputies intended. I do not know but——

Yes, the normal.

——that is the reply I have got.
