Vol. 251 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cavan School.

29.

(Cavan): asked the Minister for Finance if he will make a statement regarding the erection of a special school at Cootehill, County Cavan; and the reasons for the undue delay in commencing building.

Preparatory work on the provision of this school has been expedited as much as possible.

Tenders for the erection of the building are due on 4th March, 1971 and all going well a contract should be placed in April.

(Cavan): Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that a local committee purchased the site at a cost of £2,500 in June, 1969 and that in the opinion of the committee there has been undue delay? Will the Parliamentary Secretary now take steps to ensure that there is no further delay?

In fact I have already done this because with a view to expediting progress with the work a quantity surveyor was appointed before working drawings for the building were completed. Again, for purposes of expedition an advertisement was published in the daily newspapers in December last inviting firms who might be interested to apply for inclusion in the list of contractors who would be invited to tender. I have been trying to expedite the matter as much as I can.

(Cavan): Did I understand the Parliamentary Secretary to say that tenders have been invited?

Yes, and the closing date is 4th March.
