Vol. 251 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tallaght (Dublin) Vocational School.

26.

asked the Minister for Education the present position in relation to the building of a vocational school in Tallaght, County Dublin.

Additional prefabricated accommodation will be provided on the existing vocational school site to meet immediate needs. In the meantime, discussions are proceeding between my Department and the various school authorities involved in regard to the planning of the proposed new post-primary school complex at Tallaght.

The reason I put down the question is to find out from the Minister at what stage are the discussions in this matter. They have been going on for two years. Last year I went to see the Minister to ask him to receive a deputation. Perhaps the Minister could tell the House something more regarding the stage the discussions have reached? The place is littered with prefabs and they are still unable to accommodate the people there.

We are making more prefabricated accommodation available but it is difficult at this stage to say in detail how far these discussions have gone. Each of the different groups has agreed to some things and not to others and we are trying to get agreement between all. However, I hope the planning will commence this summer.

Surely the Minister could give us more information regarding the discussions that are proceeding? My information is that the next move is with the Minister, that the decision is with him.

No, not quite. I should prefer to get agreement between the various groups before we proceed.

Perhaps I could give some helpful information from this side.
