Vol. 251 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork School.

29.

asked the Minister for Education when it is proposed to go ahead with the building of a new primary school at Carrignavar, County Cork.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply on 28th October, 1970 to a previous question from him in relation to this matter.

The present position is that the schools inspector for the area has been asked to arrange a meeting with the parents of the children attending the one-teacher school concerned so as to discuss with them the educational benefits which would accrue to their children by amalgamating it with the proposed new school in Carrignavar.

In view of the fact that this is going on over some considerable time, would the Minister assure me on behalf of the people in Carrignavar and round about that he will instruct those concerned to proceed with all expedition?

Yes. We shall proceed as quickly as possible. We are in communication with the manager of the school.

30.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state the schools which will be erected in County Meath in 1971-72, 1972-73, 1973-74 and 1974-75.

It is not possible to furnish information in relation to school building projects in the form sought by the Deputy. However, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report a statement giving particulars of the school building projects in County Meath.

How far forward can the Minister project the school programme? In view of the fact that he has got a list of schools which need replacement and he knows the rate of replacement which is normally carried out every year, would he be able to give me that type of information?

It is pretty difficult to do that. I have given the Deputy the cases at present under construction and due for completion this year; the cases in which grants have been sanctioned but where contracts have not yet been placed; cases where sites have been offered but which have not yet reached the grant stage.

Has the Minister a priority list, as far forward as possible, which is usually handed by his Department to the Board of Works?

I have given the information in that form. That is the only form in which I can give it.

Has the Minister got a priority list of the schools which are to get preference this year, next year and as far forward as he can go, even if it is only two years?

I would not like to go too far forward with a priority list. Circumstances change.

Can the Minister give the list even for next year, 1972-73?

I have not got it here. I shall see if I can make it available.
