Vol. 251 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Transport.

32.

asked the Minister for Education if his Department have any plans to reorganise the school transport service.

The school transport service is operating efficiently and no general reorganisation is contemplated.

33.

asked the Minister for Education if he will improve transport facilities for Valentia schoolchildren to Caherciveen, County Kerry secondary schools.

My Department has had the question of transport services for post-primary pupils from Valentia Island under examination since the new bridge to the mainland was opened to heavy traffic. I am glad to be able to tell the Deputy that, as from Monday, 15th February, a greatly improved service is operating for these pupils.

34.

asked the Minister for Education if he will grant permission for school transport from the Tireneragh and Moyessa areas to Listowel schools, before this school term ends.

The feasibility of establishing a transport service to the Listowel primary schools is being investigated and a report from CIE is awaited. I expect to be in a position to give an early decision in the matter.
