Vol. 251 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Licensing of Guns.

32.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of licensed guns in the State.

The number of firearm certificates issued by the gardaí to persons resident in the State in the year ended 30th June, 1970, was 110,063 and the number issued by the Minister for Justice to non-residents was 3,293.

The number of persons holding certificates is, of course, less than the number of certificates issued because a person may have more than one firearm. For example, over 5,000 shotgun certificates were issued in 1970 to persons already holding shotgun certificates.
