Vol. 252 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pea Crop.

40.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is in a position to assure pea growers in South Kildare that they will be offered at least the same price per ton for their crop in 1971 as they got in 1970.

41.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is satisfied that the licence granted to a firm (name supplied) to import peas is not the cause of the reduced offer made to pea growers, by that firm, for the coming season.

I propose, a Cheann Comhairle, with your permission, to take Questions Nos. 40 and 41 together.

Licences for the import of dried peas are limited to the quantities needed to fill the gap between home production and requirements.

I understand that an offer by the firm mentioned to contract at last year's price has now been accepted by the growers' representatives in South Kildare. I am satisfied that imports of dried peas under licence have not adversely affected the price position.
