Vol. 252 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Division.

27.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will consider applications made by small farmers for some of the land taken over by the Forestry Section of his Department, as such additional land would often help to keep some of those people on the land.

The Forestry Division of my Department do not normally acquire land suitable for farming and have no mandate to acquire land for division amongst local small holders. Close liaison is maintained between the Forestry Division and the Land Commission to ensure that no land required for Land Commission purposes is devoted to State afforestation.

Would it be possible for the Minister for Lands to see me right away?

The Deputy has another question down, does that concern the same family?

While I have the Minister for Lands in the humour to see me I had better see him before he changes his mind.

(Interruptions.)
