Vol. 252 No. 7

Written Answers. - Health Board and Local Authority Employees.

79.

asked the Minister for Health if he is yet in a position to state whether employees of a health board or a local authority are eligible for appointment as chairman or vice-chairman of such board or authority.

A member of a health board, who is an officer or servant of the board, is not eligible for election as chairman or vice-chairman of the board.

A member of a health board, who is an officer or servant of a local authority, but is not an officer or servant of the health board, may be elected chairman or vice-chairman of the health board.

Any member of a local authority is eligible for appointment as chairman or vice-chairman of that authority.

A person is disqualified for membership of a local authority if he holds any office or place of profit—other than the office of mayor—under or in the gift or disposal of the local authority itself or of any committee appointed by it or of any joint committee partly appointed by it. A member of a local authority may not be employed by or under that local authority and may not hold a major office under another local authority in the same or adjoining county or county borough.
