Vol. 252 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Importation of Horticultural Products.

43.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries what quantitative restrictions now apply to the importation of horticultural products.

The existing quantitative import restrictions on horticultural products are:—Apples—On imports from sources other than the United Kingdom. Onions—On imports from all sources. Tomatoes—On imports from all sources during the seasonal period of home supplies each year. Certain fruit pulp and juices—On imports from all sources.

Imports of the products to which the restrictions apply are permitted under licence to such extent and at such times as adequate home-produced supplies are not available and, in the case of tomatoes, for a relatively small annual quantity from the UK as provided for under the Free Trade Area Agreement.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary tell the House in what way an importer obtains a licence?

One hundred pounds under the plate.

The normal way of obtaining a licence.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary be prepared to circulate a list of people who hold such permits?

The question deals with the quantitative restrictions.

I am not asking a supplementary question arising out of a separate question; I am asking a supplementary question arising out of the Parliamentary Secretary's reply. Is the Parliamentary Secretary prepared to circulate to Deputies the names and addresses of people who hold permits?

The question relates to quantitative restrictions and the Deputy knows that.

It might embarrass some people.

The question does not arise. The Deputy should not twist the question to suit himself. The Deputy is completely out of order.

(Interruptions.)
