Vol. 252 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment in Dublin Firm.

67.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if the Government have discussed with a firm in Dublin (name supplied) the possibility of the firm engaging in some form of diversification to maintain in employment the large number of workers who are expected to become redundant during the next few years.

As I stated in reply to a question on 25th February last, I and my Department have had discussions with the management of the company. I said, in reply to the previous question, that I have been assured that, as the company's plans to deal with the situation are being developed, they would continue to maintain close liaison with the Government Departments and State agencies concerned. As the company has already stated publicly, one of the ways by which it is proposed to deal with the situation is to undertake a programme of diversification.
