Vol. 252 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers (Resumed). - Air Services.

17.

Mr. O'Donnell

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether an application has been received from a new Irish airline company for permission to operate services into and out of this country; and, if so, if he will indicate his attitude to the application and its likely implications for existing Irish airlines.

An application has been received from a new Irish company for an authorisation to operate charter flights with leased aircraft. I have refused the application on the grounds that present air services including charter services operating to and from Ireland adequately cater for the market.

18.

Mr. O'Donnell

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether there has been any renewal of efforts by the American Government or American airlines to obtain landing rights at Dublin Airport; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There has been no change in the position in relation to this subject since I dealt with it at length in the reply to the debate on the Supplementary Estimate for my Department on 10th February, 1970.

The statement made about airfields and airlines yesterday did not mean exactly what it said.

It is a different matter altogether.

I appreciate that there are difficulties in giving short notice about raising matters on the Adjournment, but seeing that we are going into Recess now for some weeks I would like to give notice of my intention to raise on the Adjournment the subject matter contained in these questions.

The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.
