Vol. 252 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers (Resumed). - Sick Leave of Insured Workers.

22.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of days lost through illness by insured workers in 1970, excluding casual sick absences of three days or less.

The information sought by the Deputy is not yet available. However, the number of days lost through illness in the 1969 benefit year, the latest for which figures are available, based on claims for disability benefit by insured persons, was approximately 18,064,000.

Could I ask the Parliamentary Secretary how many times as many days this was as the number of days which were lost through strikes last year and which we heard so much about?

That is a separate question.

It bears on the question. It is 18 times as many.
