asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the number of Irish citizens evacuated from East Bengal this year; and the number of such persons who received advances from his Department towards the cost of repatriation or for any other purpose.

Before the outbreak of the fighting in East Pakistan arrangements were made with the British authorities for the inclusion in their evacuation plans of any Irish citizens who wished to leave the area. A guarantee was given that the Government would underwrite the costs involved. To date I have received particulars of six Irish citizens who were evacuated from Dacca but full particulars of all those evacuated and their nationality are not yet available.
