Vol. 253 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Petrol and Fuel Oil Taxes.

9.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in respect of the year ended 31st March, 1971, the amount of money collected from taxes on petrol and fuel oils.

The approximate net receipts from the customs and excise duties on petrol and fuel oils for the year ended 31st March, 1971 were £47.1 million. In addition, turnover tax was payable on the receipts from retail sales but separate figures of the receipts of this tax in respect of the commodities mentioned are not available.

Could the Minister indicate how that compares with the previous year?

No; I am afraid I have not got that information here.

Could the Minister indicate what he hopes it might be in the coming year?
