asked the Minister for Defence what facilities are provided by the Army welfare service to assist soldiers, who are awaiting discharge, to obtain employment.

Army Welfare Boards are not primarily concerned with the re-settlement of soldiers. Incidental to their normal functions, however, they give whatever assistance they can. In this connection I might mention that in the case of The Curragh Training Camp, the Camp Welfare Officer maintains a register of the names and qualifications of personnel about to be discharged with a view to placing them in suitable employment.
I should also mention that a scheme of concession exists to assist ex-members of the Permanent Defence Force in securing employment with Government Departments, local authorities and semi-State bodies.
