Vol. 253 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Birr Swimming Pool.

31.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will sanction the amended plan for Birr swimming pool, County Offaly, as soon as possible.

Detailed plans of this pool have not yet been submitted to my Department.

Who is holding up the plan? I was informed that the Department were holding it up. Will the Parliamentary Secretary confirm that?

This is not so. In this case the group concerned proceeded with the scheme and there was an indication from the local authority that a contribution of £20,000 would be available. It has since been discovered that the cost is likely to be in the region of £35,000 and the county council have been asked to submit detailed information regarding the pool itself, the costing of it and so on. We have received some information which covered the superstructure only but we have not the basic information from the local authority.

This seems to be very complicated.

We shall be able to handle it.
