Vol. 253 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sligo-Leitrim Electricity Supply.

7.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will state in respect of Counties Leitrim and Sligo how many homes have yet to be supplied with electricity; and how many householders have been asked for a down payment before being supplied.

I am informed by the ESB that figures for the number of houses to be supplied are compiled only on an area basis which do not correspond with county boundaries.

Capital contributions are not normally required in the case of domestic supplies made available under the rural electrification scheme, the second phase of which is now being carried out on a programmed area by area basis.

The question of a contribution arises only when a person inquiries about getting supply before his turn comes under the planned post-development scheme. Most of these inquiries are not pursued by the applicants and their number is not recorded.
