Vol. 253 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - CIE Pension Scheme.

16.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will state in relation to the CIE Pension Scheme, 1951, which caters for clerks, supervisors, etc. (1) when negotiations for improvements in the scheme which were initiated in July, 1967 are likely to be completed; (2) the number of CIE employees who are covered by the scheme; (3) the total amount of funds held under the scheme as at 31st December, 1970; and if he will state the total amount paid in pensions from the CIE pension fund 1951 for the year 1970 and each of the five preceding years.

There are no proposals before my Department at present for amendment of the CIE superannuation scheme, 1951. I understand from CIE that in November, 1969 they informed the CIE clerical and supervisory trade union group that they were prepared to submit to me for approval certain proposals providing for improved benefits in the CIE superannuation scheme, 1951 on the basis of equal contributions by the members and the company. While the group subsequently sought and was given clarification on points raised in regard to the terms of these proposals, it has not as yet intimated its decision on them.

The replies to parts (2) and (3) of the Deputy's question are in the form of a tabular statement which, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report.
