Vol. 253 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Service.

118.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will consider the provision of a public telephone kiosk in the village of Dromina, County Cork.

Arrangements have already been made to provide a public telephone kiosk at Dromina, County Cork. It is expected that it will be erected within the next few months.

119.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will provide a telephone kiosk at Corner Park Road, Newcastle, County Dublin; and if he will have the very poor telephone services in that area generally investigated.

Corner Park Road, Newcastle, is regarded as adequately served by the existing kiosk in Main Street and a further kiosk in the area is not considered warranted.

Steps have been taken to improve the telephone service in Newcastle which is served by Rathcoole exchange. This exchange which was originally designed for low traffic use appropriate to a residential area is overloaded. The equipment cannot be extended pending provision of a new exchange at Rathcoole which is on order and is expected to be in service in 1973. Everything possible will be done to maintain a satisfactory service through the existing exchange in the interim.

Telephones installed for new subscribers over the past 12 months or so in Newcastle and other areas served by Rathcoole exchange have been connected temporarily to Clondalkin exchange.

120.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the present position regarding the proposed telephone service for the Black Valley area, near the Gap of Dunloe, Beaufort, County Kerry.

My Department have no plans at present to provide telephone service for the Black Valley area. The cost would be extremely high.
