6.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state in respect of the latest available date for which figures are available the number of (a) males and (b) females registered as unemployed in County Westmeath.

7.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state in respect of the latest available date for which figures are available the number of (a) males and (b) females registered as unemployed in County Longford.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 6 and 7 together.

The numbers of persons, residing in Counties Westmeath and Longford, who were on the live register at local employment offices on the 30th April last, were as follows:—

Males

Females

Total

County Westmeath

657

124

781

County Longford

688

47

735

It was just as well that the Parliamentary Secretary read the reply quickly.

Last week the Deputy complained about the strength of my voice: this week he is complaining about the speed at which I speak. What does he want?

It is a combination of the two.

It is disorderly if you do not want people to hear it.

People can read them in the Official Report.

What is the future for those——

Seven thousand people unemployed in County Longford.

And the same in Westmeath. What is the future for those 1,500 people who are unemployed at the present time? Or, are the Government interested in their future?

(Interruptions.)

That is a separate question.
