Vol. 254 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Social Welfare Benefit Eligibility.

11.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will consider having boatmen, ghillies, shooting guides and similar classes of employees made eligible for social welfare benefits by permitting them to have insurance cards stamped by their employers.

Persons employed in the employments stated in the question are, in fact, insurable under the Social Welfare Acts if employed under a contract of service. In common with other categories of employees they are not insurable when not under such a contract. It is not proposed to change the statutory requirement.
