Vol. 254 No. 3

Questions—Ceisteanna. Oral Answers. - Carriage of Valuable Mail.

90.

(Cavan) asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if any special precautions are taken by his Department with regard to the carriage of valuable mail in order to safeguard it against robbery; and, if so, what they are.

Special precautions are taken to safeguard mails in transit but it would not be in the public interest to disclose them.

May I ask the Minister whether the staff of contractors are in any way covered by insurance against personal injury which they might suffer in the event of such attack taking place?

I have not got that information but I shall find out for the Deputy and communicate with him at a later stage.
