Vol. 254 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Midland Health Board.

11.

asked the Minister for Health if he has received any proposals from the Midland Health Board concerning the provision of headquarters; and, if so, if he will give details.

I have been informed by the Chief Executive Officer that the Midland Health Board have recently accepted an offer from the Offaly Country Council to provide office accommodation for the health board staff at terms which appear to me to be reasonable.

Could the Minister state the terms?

The overall cost of the structure and the offices will not exceed £10,000 and will be at a yearly rent of less than £2,000 for eight years.

Is the Minister aware that the Midland Health Board already own premises in Mullingar which are suitable and could be occupied without any cost whatever to the rate-payers? Would he recommend to the board that they should avail of their own premises before incurring expenditure of the magnitude of £10,000?

That was not the view of the health board.
