Vol. 254 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Telephone Application.

69.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the delay in installing a telephone for a person (name supplied) in County Dublin.

The delay in meeting the application, which I regret, is due to overloading of the exchange concerned at Rathcoole. The equipment there was originally designed for low traffic use appropriate to a residential area.

A new exchange building is at present being erected at Rathcoole and the exchange equipment which it will house is on order. Meanwhile priority applications only from the area are being attended to, service being provided temporarily from Clondalkin exchange.

Is the Minister aware that this applicant applied for a telephone last July? A phone applied for by his neighbour in December last has since been installed.

I understand the person referred to in the question made application in May, 1970, and he made no claim for priority. I am not aware of his neighbour getting a phone.

Only last week.

I could not make any comment on that.
