Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Amenities.

35.

asked the Minister for Local Government if an application for an amenity grant has been received from Listowel Urban District Council, County Kerry; and what is the position concerning it.

36.

asked the Minister for Local Government if an application for the sanction of a loan of £5,000 for the development of the town park has been received from Listowel Urban District Council, County Kerry; if so, the date of the application; and when sanction will be given.

I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 35 and 36 together.

In July, 1969, Listowel Urban District Council submitted to my Department an outline scheme for the development of the town park area and sought general approval of the scheme for amenity grant purposes; this approval was conveyed to the council in November, 1969. The council have applied for a grant in respect of the first phase of the development, which consists of two tennis courts, and a decision on the payment of a grant towards the cost of this part of the scheme will be made when details of expenditure have been received from the council. Subsequent phases will be considered for grant purposes according as detailed proposals are formulated and submitted.

With regard to the Deputy's second question, the council applied in November, 1969, for sanction to the raising of a loan of £5,000 towards the cost of the first stage of the development of the park. Consideration of the application was deferred pending clarification of the cost of the works to be assisted by way of amenity grant. When details of expenditure on the tennis courts are available, consideration will be given to the loan application in so far as it relates to that part of the scheme. Sanction for the raising of a loan or loans to finance the council's contributions towards later stages of the scheme will be considered in due course in the light of capital available for works of this nature at the particular time.
