Vol. 254 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Hospital.

15.

asked the Minister for Health if plans for the replacement of the temporary buildings in St. Ita's Hospital, Portrane, County Dublin, have as yet been received by his Department; if so, if these plans have yet been approved; and when building will commence.

Preliminary proposals for the provision of new places for mentally handicapped patients at St. Ita's Hospital, Portrane, were received in my Department on 24th May, 1971. A detailed examination of these proposals is now proceeding, but it is not possible as yet to state when building work is likely to commence.

Do the proposals cover the temporary buildings at St. Ita's, Portrane? Are these the buildings it is proposed to replace, the temporary ones that have been in existence for 87 years?

They provide for 170 new beds and a physiotherapy unit.

May I ask if the provision for 170 beds is to replace existing temporary buildings? Will it replace every one of them?

It will make some contribution towards the replacement.

Is it intended that the other outmoded, outdated buildings which are a hazard will remain?

That will be a matter for further study.
