Vol. 254 No. 10

Written Answers. - Council of Europe Recommendations.

131.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs whether the Government accepts Recommendation No. 632 on the situation of the Jewish community in the USSR which was adopted by the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe on 23rd January, 1971; and whether they are prepared to comply with the requests contained in paragraph 8.

Recommendation 632 is still being examined by the Committee of Ministers' Deputies. The attitude of the Government towards the Recommendation is sympathetic.

132.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs whether the Government accepts Recommendation No. 609 on drug dependence which was adopted by the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe on 21st September, 1970; and whether they are now ready to become a party to the Single International Convention on Narcotic Drugs of 1961 as proposed in paragraph 6 (ii) of Part II—Legal Aspects—of this recommendation.

I would refer the Deputy to my written reply to a similar question put by him on 6th November, 1970. The reports of the European Public Health Committee and the European Committee on Crime Problems, which were asked for an opinion on this Recommendation, will be considered by the Committee of Ministers' Deputies when they are both available.
