Vol. 254 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cavan School.

20.

(Cavan) asked the Minister for Finance when it is proposed to complete work on the new Bawnboy school, County Cavan; if the tarmacadam courtyard will be provided as promised; and if he will make a statement regarding the completion and furnishing of this school and all other matters outstanding as the parents are very dissatisfied about the rate of progress.

The contractors are being pressed to complete a number of minor works which are still outstanding and they have promised to attend to them without delay. The contractors have also been instructed to provide an additional tarmacadam area for use as a ballcourt.

Orders have been issued for the supply of the necessary furniture and there seems to be no reason why the building should not be ready for occupation before September.

(Cavan): I am sorry that I did not get the begining of the reply, through no fault of the Parliamentary Secretary, but I take it that the Parliamentary Secretary did say that a ballcourt will be provided?

Yes. I should like to make it clear that there was never any question of the Office of Public Works being unwilling to provide a ballcourt although that rumour, I believe, has been sent around.

(Cavan): There was some misunderstanding about it.

There was never any question of that.

(Cavan): Will the ballcourt be provided and the furniture installed in time for the opening of the school in September?

Yes. Contracts for all the furniture except the tables have been placed. It is expected that they will be delivered on 1st July, 1971. The tables are being manufactured by the Office of Public Works.
